Stephen Kenn x Simon Miller
In the fall of 2013 Los Angeles-based denim company Simon Miller Design Studio approached Stephen Kenn with the idea to create a sofa inspired by a pair of jeans. Jeans are traditionally made from indigo-dyed woven cotton, and finished with copper rivets and buttons, so those two elements became the basis for the design. Building on the Inheritance Collection Sofa design, the frame was dipped in copper, and then oxidized to give it an antique finish. The cushion covers and straps were created from natural cotton canvas and webbing that was hand-dipped in natural indigo dye by Jane Palmer at Noon Design Studio. The piece was finished with honey colored vegetable-tanned leather and antique brass buckles. The finished design remains modern in aesthetic, but reminiscent of the warmth and comfort of a well-worn pair of jeans.
